Accountability? Anyone?
April 20, 2010Well I couldn’t stop myself from writing this post after a particular incident happened. By the way, this is a long long long post.
Well. Let me start then. Our Honourable Member of Parliament Shri Lalu Prasad Yadav did an unbelievable act today in the parliament. He,in the parliament, said that his son carrying a towel in the IPL is very unbecoming of a ..hold your breath… yeah you are right.. yadav. Apparently very miffed at his son not being allowed to play in the playing 11 in any match for the Delhi Daredevils he is now trying to strike a chord with his community. This is as low as politics gets. What is Lalu asking now? Reservations in IPL? Cricket?
Yesterday itself Shashi Tharoor, according to me the most pragmatic minister India had and India needed so badly, was forced to resign. One of the most educated minister in the Government deserved to be treated in a better way. He was awarded doctorate at the age of 22! He is highly qualified, served at the UN for almost 30 years and knows international affairs better than anyone in the government. He has been incorrectly and very stupidly dragged into mindless controversies which range from poor english knowledge of politicians(remember “interlocutor” word when he was talking of Saudi Arabia as interlocutor. Man,this was blown out of proportion. He had to clarify what interlocutor meant. Some job for a Union Minister) to some logical thinking(On Gandhi Jayanti he had asked people to work as a mark of respect rather than enjoy it as an holiday. This became a controversy. God help India)

In India, its so easy to be branded as corrupted when you are actually doing some good. What’s with this IPL? Is it such a big issue? What of Lalu eating hundreds of crores in the fodder scam? What about Mayawati who had an income rise from 2 crores to 50 crores in 1 year after she became the chief minister? Why are they, the actual dirt, still not removed from the system? What happened to D.Raja? He pocketed thousands of crores while being in the ministry. The proof is begged to be seen. Why has he been reinstated again? The mining scams in Orissa, AP? Illegal mining was allowed while legal mining like POSCO and arcelor Mittal are still waiting approval? What type of country are we living in? “Aththi devo bhaawa” We apparently believe (oops. only for text books) in this. But still politicians and high ranked police officer’s sons don’t forget to rape foreign tourists. And the best part is they never get convicted. Commonwealth games? Corruption written all over the stadiums, metros, lanes. Politicians eat money, live on money and play with lives of us. Why nothing is being done? What about Naxal problem? One of the gravest dangers India is facing. What is being done actually? Reports show there is politicians hand in the naxal problem. Everyone knows one big West Bengal party is related to Naxal but still nothing is being done. The police and the CRPF soldiers are like toys for the government. Let them be killed to gain political mileage. Who cares? Do we? No. We don’t.
Shashi Tharoor,if at all,has used power to get some money from a money deep league which treats money as garbage dump. Mr. Lalit Modi was arrested in the US for robbery when he was studying there. The entire league is being run by him. What can we expect from him? Why is his testimony so important to the government? Why are the millions running around the courts not being heard to?
You all must be knowing Abhinav Bindra(For the uninitiated,he is the only Indian till date to win an Olympic Gold Medal). He is so so irritated by the government sporting federations that he wants to quit shooting.
Quite expected from a country where all sports federations are run by politicians(No prizes for guessing. Yes that is the answer. Money money.). Below is the list of politicians who think the sports federations are their own private federations
Suresh Kalmadi has been head of the Indian Olympic Association for 15 years and counting. Professor VK Malhotra has headed India’s archery association for an incredible 31 years now. Sukhdev Dindsa’s stint with the national cycling body is 14 years and counting. J S Gehlot has led the kabbadi association for 24 years and Digivijay Singh has performed a similar role with shooting for 10 years. Abhay Singh Chautala is the chief for boxing (8 years), KPS Gill has been in charge of hockey for 14 years; Captain Satish Sharma, of Sanjay Gandhi era fame (or infamy) has been in the leadership position of the national aero club for 24 years. Rajesh Tiwari is, for 13 years and counting, the head of the national power lifting body; KP Singh Deo is head of the national rowing body, a post he has now held for 9 years…

Aren’t we tired of shameless, uneducated politicians? Aren’t we tired of corruption? The moment we step out of our homes there is corruption and inefficiency of the government written all over it. But still why are we still focusing on such trivial issues like IPL franchises. Why are we so concerned? Does it show we have nothing better to do? For two days the the newspapers had photos of either IPL controversies or Sania-Shoaib pictures. Is the media making a joke of our sentiments or are we really like that and deserve only that?
I will miss Shashi Tharoor’s intelligent remarks and will get used to the dust bin called the parliament. He is a living example why good people cannot get into parliament without getting dirty.
Peace.
Abhishek
P.S: Barring a few almost all in the parliament are good for nothing,into-politics-only-for-money people. We need more of the good people in there.
ah the fire I wish to see…..
Thanks for the comment. Sarcastic or otherwise. Always welcome.
the main reason for all this problem is our political system….this so called politicians never give any chance to the intellectuals…
Yes and now it is such a situation that it is very difficult to get out of this. India is completely in their hands now. We,normal people for whom they stand for, cannot even challenge their decisions even though we are against it.
there is one more point , i would like 2 add…
Indians are too much Emotionals. They easily believe someone who tells some word of favour toward them…they don’t even dare to just know the real cause of favour. And politicians makes most of it by making fool to people.
Yes true. And its because of lack of education in India. If people are properly educated, we can differentiate between false and true promises. But politicians are trying not to make that possible for their own benefits!
good work…In India one needs to follow the crowd…once u post your own opinion on something…u r gone…Mr. Tharoor was unaware of how politics runs in India…it is right that he was one of the most educated ministers of India and was a visionary…but the govt clipped his wings…it is we who have to make the change…corruption exists because we allow it to…its not that u can make a difference only by joining politics….even the media needs to be responsible too…Be the Change…and make others follow…
good collection of facts…ur best post…
Yeah rightly said. My intention wasn’t that we cannot do anything. It was to make everyone aware what shit we have gotten into. We need to come out of this. And it can be best done by everyone contributing. And it can be done. We have the best of laws but extremely flawed implementation. This has to be changed. We need a set of strongly willed people who want this to be changed. And it needs to be one among us,the educated who know what is happening around, where the problem lies and what the best solution could be. Mr.Tharoor was one. And we have lost him.
And by the way thanks for the lovely last line.
